With more than 130,000 Australians now calling a land lease community home, and an industry pipeline of over 50,000 new dwellings, its no surprise that Land Lease Communities had our own dedicated panel at this years’ Property Council of Australia #PropertyCongress2026
More Australians are choosing to right-size their homes to better suit their current stage of life, and land lease communities are increasingly becoming a compelling housing choice.
It was a privilege to join fellow industry leaders Manuel Lang of GemLife, Justin Mitchell of Ingenia Communities Group, Andrew Walsh of nbn® Australia expertly moderated by Katie Stevenson of the Property Council NSW, to discuss the continued rise of LLC as a significant contributor to the Australian property market.
With national penetration rates still sitting below 2%, significant runway for future growth remains. Combined with increasing institutional investment and growing consumer awareness, the land lease sector is still only at the beginning of its growth journey.
More importantly, land lease communities are about much more than housing. Our customers are drawn to the financial freedom that comes from unlocking hard-earned equity, along with the lifestyle, health and wellbeing benefits, and the safety, security and sense of belonging that community living provides.
Together with our industry peers, we established the first Land Lease Roundtable, led by Tom Court, to strengthen industry collaboration, align our advocacy efforts, address key sector challenges, and help drive better outcomes for both the industry and, most importantly, our homeowners. One year in and we are making great progress.
As our sector continues to evolve, what I’m most proud of is the way we work together as an industry. While there is certainly healthy competition between us, we consistently come together to support the broader interests of the sector and the customers we serve.
The future of land lease communities is bright, and if the quality of people in our industry is anything to go by, the best is yet to come.
